The concept of Maadhyam Women Support Centre was introduced in the year 2014 as a flagship endeavour of Commissionerate of Police and Institute for Social Development (ISD). Maadhyam Women Support Centre aims to serve those women who are survivors of Gender-Based Violence. It was thought necessary to provide different support to women when they approach police seeking redressal of their grievances. This support includes with a comprehensive package of services consisting of psycho-social counselling, legal aid and advice, medical support and short term stay in Shelter Homes.
The ISD is extensively involved in the theme of addressing Gender-based violence through its signature activity i.e. Women Support Centre – Maadhyam in the geographical area that comes under the Commissionerate of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
The main objective of this center to render assistance to women who are subjected to violence in various forms viz:
- Domestic Violence
- Sexual Harassment
- Sexual Assault
- Molestation
- Trafficking
- Child Marriage
- False Promise of Marriage
- Violence with elderly women etc
For the above mentioned issues of women, Maadhyam has strategically located within the premises of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar and Mahila police Station, Cuttack.
Trained Counselors are engaged to listen to them, build their confidence through series of counseling sessions and explained them to assert their rights.
